Mammootty Discloses Reason Behind the Filming of Two Climax Scenes in ‘Harikrishnans’

Fazil’s film ‘Harikrishnans’, featuring actors Mammootty and Mohanlal in the lead roles, was a massive hit at the box office. The film gained notoriety for having two climactic scenes. Although there were speculations about why the filmmakers opted to shoot two endings, the prevailing opinion was that the separate endings were designed to please the fan base of both actors.

The film was shown in theatres from Thiruvanthapuram to Ernakulam, where Mohanlal’s fan base was reportedly strong, with an ending that had Mohanlal winning the girl. Meanwhile, from Ernakulam to Kasaragod, Mammootty won the girl.

During the launch of Goa Governor P Sreedhara Pillai’s latest books at the Kochi National Book festival, Mammootty disclosed the reason for filming two climaxes for the movie. The actor said they had planned to show two different endings in two theatres in a city so that people would come to watch those two endings. “We did not shoot the two climaxes then with the intention of dividing the north and south regions. We had this good/sneaky intention of screening two different endings in two theatres in a city and hopefully people will come to watch those two endings. But unfortunately, while sending for prints, someone got it mixed up and it ended up screening in two different regions in Kerala. Our intentions were good. Since we had an audience who were happy to see the girl marrying either Krishnan or Hari, it became a success,” the megastar said, dismissing the rumors.

The plot of the film revolves around two people, Hari and Krishnan, who are both in love with the same girl. The film concludes with the girl selecting her suitor. As part of the movie’s marketing, the filmmakers kept two endings.
